What is effective policy advocacy?

We believe that effective policy advocacy is the strategic effort to influence and shape policies that create an enabling environment for the sustainable growth and development of WMAs in Tanzania. At its core, CWMAC’s advocacy ensures institutional recognition and alignment of WMAs with national and global policy frameworks, unlocking additional resources, guidance, and benefits for the local communities.

CWMAC’s advocacy focuses on fostering transparency, equitable revenue distribution, and community participation. By advancing policies that support conservation and sustainable resource management, effective advocacy builds a foundation where investments thrive while delivering measurable benefits to communities and biodiversity.

Why is this important to the work we do?

Supportive policies are essential to creating an enabling environment where WMAs can thrive by ensuring community voices are included in decision-making and benefit-sharing processes.

By 2028, we aim to advocate for policy reforms and alignment to create supportive conditions for WMAs and promote fair, transparent, and equitable revenue distribution within WMAs.
