On May 17, 2025, a landmark ceremony at Jakaya Kikwete Hall in Dodoma celebrated the disbursement of TZS 2.25 billion in tourism dividends to six WMAs. Facilitated by TAWA and championed by Hon. Ambassador Dr. Pindi Chana (MP), Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, the event symbolized the tangible returns of long-term investment in community-based conservation.

Beneficiary WMAs—Makame, Ikona, Randilen, Enduimet, Burunge, and Ipole—received a combined TZS 1.5 billion, reinforcing the economic value of the WMA model. Speaking on behalf of communities, Mr. Eliasi Chama, Chairperson of Ikona WMA, applauded the Ministry’s commitment and called for further policy enhancements to strengthen revenue systems.

The message was clear: when communities lead, and when policies support that leadership, conservation becomes a powerful driver of rural development and shared prosperity.
