District Natural Resources Advisory Boards (DNRABs) are emerging as critical custodians of WMA governance. In Liwale, Rufiji, and Longido, CWMAC-facilitated meetings under WWF’s BMZ Unganisha and Leading the Change II projects equipped DNRABs with the clarity and confidence to carry out their mandates.

The outcomes were immediate and tangible:

  • Liwale and Rufiji DNRABs committed to regular sessions and initiated reviews of contested investment contracts.
  • Longido board members prioritized action on human-wildlife conflict and benefit-sharing transparency.
  • District Commissioners pledged dedicated budget allocations to sustain these efforts.

These are not just governance meetings, they are turning points in building local capacity for democratic oversight and effective conservation delivery. DNRABs are fast becoming pillars of accountability and sustainability in Tanzania’s community conservation model.
