In a significant step toward strengthening sustainable tourism, Iluma Wildlife Management Area (WMA) has signed a new 10-year investment contract with Latanakiri Safaris Limited, a locally based company specializing in tourism hunting. This agreement marks a new chapter for Iluma following the termination of a previous contract that failed due to prolonged non-performance and lack of operational commitment from the former investor.
Valued at USD 60,000 annually, with additional commitments, the new deal is set to revitalize the WMA’s overall performance by supporting community-led wildlife conservation, social development, and anti-poaching efforts. The contract was signed with the full backing of the local government, with district commissioners from both Ulanga and Kilombero in attendance, underscoring broad-based support for Iluma’s direction.
This milestone reflects Iluma’s renewed focus on attracting credible tourism partners aligned with its conservation and development goals. The new investor brings a solid operational plan, proven eco-tourism experience, and a commitment to boosting local employment, infrastructure, and community benefits.
The process was facilitated by CWMAC and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, ensuring adherence to national investment guidelines and transparency principles.
