On June 19, 2025, over 100 community leaders, conservation stakeholders, and government partners convened in Dodoma for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Community Wildlife Management Areas Consortium (CWMAC). Representing all 26 Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) across Tanzania, the meeting served as a platform for collective reflection, accountability, and ambition-setting for the coming year.

In a strong show of unity, members reviewed the 2024/25 financial year’s progress, affirmed priority actions for under-resourced WMAs, and called for urgent reforms in revenue disbursement and boundary conflict resolution. The AGM also celebrated a significant milestone: the official admission of Ndonda and Ifinga-Ruhudji WMAs, expanding the Consortium’s national footprint and underscoring the growing momentum for community-led conservation.

The session, chaired by Mr. Saidi Rashidi Masudi, with Vice Chairperson Ms. Zainabu Mdumla and Secretary Mr. Supuk Olekao, reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to inclusive, grassroots-driven governance. CWMAC extends its deep appreciation to partners, including WWF, the European Union, Honeyguide, Maliasili, SADC, and Resource Africa, whose unwavering support continues to empower local communities to steward Tanzania’s natural heritage.
