CWMAC has advanced its capacity-building efforts with awareness-raising initiatives that strengthened governance, sustainability, and community participation in Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). Governance training modules reached over 150 stakeholders from all WMAs, clarifying roles and responsibilities among local leaders, village councils, and conservation partners.
The quota-setting workshop was also an integral part of the process. It brought together and taught eight Southern Tanzania WMA Platform communities of Chingoli, Kimbanda, Kisungule, Juhiwangumwa, Mungata, Magingo, Nalika, and Mbarang’andu, on the sustainable wildlife management practices. The sessions focused on exploring available means to enhance socio-economic incentives to the local communities through wildlife quota setting and addressing boundary conflicts which have dedicated tourist hunting blocks in their respective WMAs.
Among other significant interventions, CWMAC also conducted specialized training for Public Relations Officers (PROs), equipping them with the skills and techniques needed to effectively communicate conservation goals and engage stakeholders. Over 100 participants gained tools for managing public relations, crafting impactful messaging, and improving community outreach. These initiatives empower communities to lead conservation efforts, ensuring sustainable outcomes for both wildlife and livelihoods.
